A PLACE TO TRAIN.
A PLACE TO BELONG.

Every journey begins with showing up.

From a child’s first class to an experienced student’s next chapter, Yobukan brings people together through the practice of Chito-Ryu karate.

Our story began in Gibbons in 2009 and grew to include Redwater in 2013. Today, the same idea guides us: make room for dedication, respect, and steady progress.

A FEW
GOOD QUESTIONS.

Something else on your mind?

Let’s talk
Do I need any karate experience?

Which class is right for me or my child?

Junior Champions is for ages 4–6. Other sessions are organized by belt level. Let Sensei Justin know the student’s age, any previous experience, and your preferred location so he can advise on class placement.

The Yobukan dojo naming presentation in 2009

OUR STORY · SINCE 2009

ROOTS THAT
RUN DEEP.

On July 28, 2009, Tsuyoshi Chitose named Yobukan Dojo in Canmore, Alberta. The name means “a place where warriors are developed.”

Classes began in Gibbons that September. Redwater followed in 2013, bringing the practice to a second community.

In 2018, Yobukan joined the Canadian Chito Ryu Karatedo Association under Higashi Sensei, continuing its commitment to traditional karate.
